Profession:
(1848-1930, Balfour) 1st Earl of Balfour - British Conservative politician who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom & (1852-1928, Asquith) Earl of Oxford and Asquith - Liberal Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1908 to 1916
Year of Birth: 1848
Arthur Balfour was a British statesman who served as Prime Minister from 1902 to 1905. Born in 1848, he came from a prominent political family and was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. Balfour entered Parliament in 1874 and quickly rose through the ranks of the Conservative Party.
During his time as Prime Minister, Balfour focused on issues such as education reform and the protection of British interests abroad. He is perhaps best known for his role in the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which expressed support for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine.
On the other hand, Herbert Henry Asquith, also known as H.H. Asquith, was a British statesman who served as Prime Minister from 1908 to 1916. Born in 1852, Asquith was a member of the Liberal Party and had a successful career in law before entering politics.
As Prime Minister, Asquith implemented social welfare reforms and led the country during the early stages of World War I. However, his handling of the war effort came under criticism, leading to his resignation in 1916. Asquith remained active in British politics until his death in 1928.
Both Balfour and Asquith played key roles in shaping British history during the early 20th century, and their legacies continue to be remembered today.
