Profession:
(1942-2016) American former professional boxer, philanthropist and social activist
Year of Birth: 1942
Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942, was an American professional boxer and activist. Widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, Ali is known for his exceptional speed and agility in the ring, as well as his charismatic personality and outspoken beliefs.
Ali rose to prominence in the 1960s, winning a gold medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics and becoming the world heavyweight champion in 1964 at the age of 22. He was known for his quick wit and showmanship, often taunting his opponents before and during fights.
Outside of the ring, Ali was a passionate advocate for civil rights and social justice. He famously refused to be drafted into the Vietnam War, citing his religious beliefs and opposition to the war. This decision cost him his boxing titles and suspended his career for several years.
After his boxing career, Ali devoted himself to humanitarian work and activism. He traveled the world as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF and the United Nations, promoting peace and understanding among nations.
In 1984, Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, likely due to the head trauma he sustained during his boxing career. Despite his declining health, Ali continued to make public appearances and inspire others with his courage and determination.
Muhammad Ali passed away on June 3, 2016, leaving behind a legacy as an athlete, activist, and global icon. His life and accomplishments continue to inspire generations of individuals to stand up for their beliefs and make a difference in the world.
