* `The Misunderstanding` (French: `Le Malentendu`), sometimes published as Cross Purpose, is a play written in 1943 in occupied France by Albert Camus. It focuses on Camus's idea of the Absurd. `Caligula` is also a play written by Albert Camus, begun in 1938 (the date of the first manuscript is 1939) and published for the first time in May 1944 by Éditions Gallimard - the final version is the four-act version of 1944, first published jointly with The Misunderstanding then published alone in the same year.

Albert Camus was a French philosopher, author, and journalist, born on November 7, 1913, in Mondovi, Algeria. He is best known for his absurdist philosophy which explores the idea that life is meaningless and chaotic, yet can still be lived with passion and integrity.
Camus grew up in poverty after his father died in World War I, but he excelled in school and eventually moved to France to study philosophy at the University of Algiers. He became involved in the French Resistance during World War II and joined the newspaper Combat, where he wrote powerful editorials against the Nazi occupation of France.
In 1942, Camus published his first novel, The Stranger, which tells the story of a man who becomes detached from society and commits a senseless murder. The novel received critical acclaim for its exploration of existential themes and became a classic of 20th-century literature.
Camus went on to write numerous other works, including The Plague, The Fall, and The Myth of Sisyphus, all of which further developed his philosophy of the absurd. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1957 for his contributions to literature and philosophy.
Despite his success as a writer, Camus struggled with his own inner demons and personal relationships. He died in a car accident on January 4, 1960, at the age of 46, leaving behind a legacy of thought-provoking works that continue to inspire readers around the world.
