Taylor made her acting debut as a child in the 1942 film "There's One Born Every Minute" and gained critical acclaim for her performances in "National Velvet" (1944) and "A Place in the Sun" (1951). She received her first Academy Award nomination for her role in "Raintree County" (1957).

Throughout her career, Taylor won two Academy Awards for Best Actress for her performances in "Butterfield 8" (1960) and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1966). She also received a special Academy Award for her humanitarian work in 1993.
