Autograph letter signed, one page (postcard depicting of Porto Santo`s windmills), 5,5 x 3,5 inch, Porto Santo (Portugal), 29.01.1969, in French, reply letter to his friend Jean Demelier (1940-, French writer, poet and painter) - Beckett thanks him for his letter and drawings & informs him of his plans, written and signed in blue ink "SamB", attractively mounted (removable) for display with a photograph, shows Samuel Beckett in a close-up portrait (altogether 8,25 x 11,75 inch), with very mild signs of wear - in fine to very fine condition. Accompanied by the original envelope.
Translated:
"Dear Jean
thank you for your letter and the drawings. Glad you liked Rabelais*, you are the first to tell us good things about it and that gave us great pleasure. I hope your writings were favorably received by [...] and you earned a contract [...] We are leaving mid-February; we will wander a little on the way and shall be in Paris early March.

* French Renaissance writer and humanist Francois Rabelais (1483/1494-1553) is remembered for his satirical and grotesque writing and his bawdy jokes. Many literary scholars and critics have explored Rabelais` influence on Beckett.
