Wilhelm I. German Emperor Autograph

Autograph letter signed, one page, 9,5 x 6,75 inch, Berlin, 7.11.1840, in German, to Felix von Lichnowsky, whom Wilhelm I praises for his glorious struggle*, written and signed in black ink "Prinz von Preußen", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a portrait picture of King Wilhelm I. in uniform (altogether 11,75 x 16,5 inch), in very fine condition.

"Wer mit Ehren gekämpft, wie Sie, muß immerfort solcher Thaten sich würdig zeigen; nur dies kann ich für Sie wünschen, so wie auch, daß der Tag kommen möge, wo Sie für das Vaterland so streiten würden, wie Sie das für eine zwar verlorene Sache, jenseits der Pyrenäen ruhmvoll taten.

Translated:
"Anyone who fights with honor, like you, must always show himself worthy of such deeds; I can only wish this for you, as well as that the day may come when you would argue for the Fatherland as you did gloriously for a lost cause beyond the Pyrenees.

* Felix von Lichnowsky (1814-1848) had participated under Don Carlos on the First Carlist Day (1833 to 1840) on the side of the Carlists, lastly as a brigadier general and diplomat.
