Autograph letter signed, 1 1/2 pages (postcard - both sides), 3,5 x 5,5 inch, Berlin-Friedenau, 11.08.1916, in German, to concuctor Mr A. Dette - inter alia concerning his state of health, the burden of the terrible time (most likely the First World War) and his fantasy Opera 11 , written and signed in black ink "Max Bruch", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a photograph, shows Max Bruch in a half length portrait (altogether 11,75 x 8,25 inch), with mild foxing - in fine to very fine condition.
"Sehr geehrter Herr,
wenn ich nach Ihren Wünschen verfahren wollte, so müßte ich mit 10-12 Verlegern eine umständliche Correspondenz beginnen. Es liegt auf der Hand daß das nicht geht. Auch bin ich alt u. leidend, u. der schwere Ernst dieser furchtbaren Zeit lastet so sehr auf mir, daß alles Persönliche jetzt zurücktritt. Ich bitte sie also, bis auf / Weiteres nichts in dieser Sache zu thun. Die Fantasie op. 11 ist bei Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig erschienen.
