Letter signed, one page, 8,25 x 11,5 inch, Kiel, 23.12.1950, in old German, to Mr Olsen - Otto Diels thanks his correspondent for congratulations for the receipt of the Nobel Prize and declines an invitation to lecture, for reasons of time, written and signed by Otto Diels in blue ink "O. Diels", with intersecting letter folds, and puncher holes to the left edge - in fine to very fine condition.

Ich danke Ihnen von Herzen für Ihre freundlichen Glückwünsche zur Verleihung des Nobel-Preises und ebenso Ihnen, ferner der Norsk Kjemisk Selskap*, sowie der Osloer und Trondheimer Professorenschaft für die Einladung bei Ihnen Vorträge zu halten!
Leider läßt sich das im Dezember unmöglich einrichten, da über jeden Tag schon seit Wochen disponiert ist. Die eigentliche Nobelfeier ist am 10/12 und am 11. oder 12. Dezember muß ich mit meiner Tochter, die mich begleitet, unbedingt direkt nach Kiel zurückreisen, da die Stadt Kiel und auch die Landesregierung mich zu großen Ehrungen erwarten! Aber ich mache Ihnen und den anderen Herren den Vorschlag, daß ich die Vorträge in Norwegen etwas Anfang Mai 1951 halte. Auch mein Nobel-Vortrag vor der Kgl. Schwedischen Akademie in Stockholm wird erst dann stattfinden, und ich könnte dann von dort zu Ihnen kommen !
Ich hoffe, daß Ihnen und den anderen Herren dieser Vorschlag genehm ist und grüße Sie und Ihre Familie auf das herzlichste!

Unfortunately, this can not be arranged in December because it has been scheduled for every day for weeks. The actual Nobel-Ceremony is on 10/12 and on the 11th or 12th of December I have to travel back to Kiel with my daughter, who accompanies me, because the city of Kiel and also the state government are expecting me to great honors! But I suggest to you and to the other gentlemen that I hold the lectures in Norway somewhat at the beginning of May 1951. Also, my Nobel lecture in front of the Royal Swedish Academy in Stockholm will take place only then, and I could then come to you from there. I hope that you and the other gentlemen approve of this proposal and greet you and your family most cordially
