Macaulay Carson Culkin was born on August 26, 1980, in New York City, to parents Kit and Patricia Brentrup. He is the eldest of seven children and the brother of actor, Rory Culkin. He began his career as a child actor at the age of four, appearing in a stage production of Bach Babies at the New York Philharmonic. His first major role came in 1984, when he played the character of Kevin McCallister in the movie, Home Alone. Culkin's performance in the movie earned him critical acclaim and he quickly became a household name.

Culkin's career continued to flourish in the early 1990s, when he appeared in a number of successful movies, such as My Girl, The Good Son, and Richie Rich. In 1995, he starred in a series of popular films called the "Culkin Brothers Trilogy," which included The Pagemaster, Richie Rich's Christmas Wish, and Getting Even with Dad. He received an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Male Performance in the 1994 film, The Good Son.
