Louis Renault was a French automotive pioneer who was born in 1877. He was the eldest of five children born to Marcel and Berthe Renault. After completing his secondary education, Louis studied engineering at the prestigious École des Arts et Métiers in Paris. He began his career in 1895, working as an engineer at his father's metalworking business. It was here that he first developed an interest in the development of automobiles.

In 1898, Louis and his brothers Marcel and Fernand founded the Société Renault Frères. Louis took the lead in designing the first Renault car, the Renault Type A, which was released in 1898. The Type A quickly gained popularity, and the company was soon producing cars for sale as well as for racing. Renault's cars were known for their advanced engineering and quality craftsmanship.

In addition to developing cars, Louis Renault was also involved in the development of a number of other products, including aircraft engines, buses, and tractors.
