Louis began his boxing career in 1934 and quickly rose through the ranks due to his exceptional talent in the ring. He became the world heavyweight champion in 1937 after defeating James J. Braddock in an eighth-round knockout.
Throughout his career, Louis defended his title a record 25 times, a feat that has yet to be surpassed. He became a national hero during his time as champion and was celebrated for his victories inside and outside the ring.
