James Hunt was a British Formula One racing driver who competed in the 1976 Formula One World Championship. He was born on August 29, 1947 in Belmont, Surrey, England. Hunt grew up in a middle class family and attended Wellington College in Berkshire. After school, he studied at the Royal College of Art in London.

In 1971, Hunt began his racing career in Formula Ford. He quickly moved up the ranks to Formula Three and Formula Two, where he won the 1974 European Formula Two Championship. In 1975, Hunt made his Formula One debut in a Hesketh Racing March 731. He achieved his first podium finish at the 1975 Dutch Grand Prix, finishing third behind Emerson Fittipaldi and Clay Regazzoni. He won his first Grand Prix at the 1976 British Grand Prix, which was held at the Brands Hatch circuit.

Hunt went on to win five more races in 1976 and finished third in the Drivers' Championship behind Niki Lauda and Jody Scheckter. He also won the James Hunt Trophy for the most successful driver that year. Hunt also won the International Race of Champions in 1977. He retired from Formula One in 1979 after winning his last race at the 1979 Canadian Grand Prix.

After his retirement from Formula One, Hunt continued to race in other series. He competed in the World Sportscar Championship, the British Touring Car Championship, the European Touring Car Championship, and the British GT Championship. He also worked as a commentator for the BBC and ITV covering Formula One. Hunt died of a heart attack on June 15, 1993 at the age of 45.

Throughout his career, Hunt was known for his aggressive and flamboyant driving style. He was also known for his playboy lifestyle, which included partying and drinking. Despite his off-track antics, Hunt was a highly-respected driver and was the first British driver to win a Formula One World Championship. He was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1993.
