Description
Autograph letter signed, two pages (both sides), 5,5 x 8,75 inch, Berlin, 6.11.1868, in German, reply letter to his cousin Eduard Ballhorn - thanking him for birthday wishes and reporting a family visit to Segeberg for his brother-in-law Brockdorff`s silver wedding, written and signed in black ink "Helmuth", with mild browning - in fine to very fine condition.
In parts:
"[...] Ich antworte erst heute, da wir auf ein Paar Tage nach Segeberg in Holstein waren zu meines Schwagers Brockdorff silbernen Hochzeit. Vierzig Verwandte waren dort versammelt u. ich habe einmal alle meine Geschwister wieder gesehen, mit Ausnahme von Lene, der es übrigens jetzt gottlob gut geht [...] wir sind ja nun alle Siebenziger geworden u. muß Gott für jedes Jahr danken, wo er uns noch beisammen läßt [...]"
Translated:
"[...] I am only replying today because we spent a few days in Segeberg, Holstein, for my brother-in-law Brockdorff’s silver wedding anniversary. Forty relatives were gathered there, and I saw all my siblings again - except for Lene, who, thank God, is doing well now [...] after all, we have all reached our seventies, and one must thank God for every year He allows us to remain together [...]"
