Description
Autograph letter signed, 1 1/2 pages (both sides), 8,25 x 10,5 inch, Paris, 23.05.1958, in French, reply letter to Jean Leymarie (1919-2006, French art historian) - concerning his works of art, written and signed in black ink "G Braque", attractively mounted (removable) for display with the original envelope and a portrait photograph of Georges Braque (altogether 16,5 x 11,75 inch), with intersecting letter folds with small tears to the edges- in fine to very fine condition.

"Mon cher Leymarie,
Votre lettre m`apporte une bonne nouvelle. Je suis heureux de penser que vous allez écrire quelque chose sur une toile que j`aime beaucoup et qui marque je crois une époque dans mon oeuvre. Il y a longtemps que les oiseaux et l`espace [...] En 1910 j`avais peint des oiseux mais ils etaient incorpores dans des natures mortes tandis que dans mes dernier choses. j`ai été tres tanté par l`espace et le mouvement pour la reste la peinture qui est mon langage [...]"
Translated:
"My dear Leymarie,
Your letter brings me good news. I am happy to think that you are going to write something on a canvas that I like very much and which I believe marks an era in my work. [...] In 1910 I had painted birds but they were incorporated in still lifes while in my last things. I was very astonished by space and movement for the rest of the painting which is my language [...]"
