* Georges Bizet was a close friend of Antoine de Choudens, for whom he also executed works of copy and arrangements, in particular the reduction for piano and voice of Charles Gounod's opera `The Queen of Sheba`.
** The singer Jeanne De Vriès created the role of Catherine Glover in Georges Bizet's opera `La Jolie fille de Perth` in December 1867.

Georges Bizet was a French composer and pianist born on 25th October 1838. His family was musical, and he began studying piano and composition at a young age. He later attended the Paris Conservatoire, where he studied under Antoine Marmontel and from age 17, he began to compose operas and other orchestral works.
At the Conservatoire, Bizet was awarded the coveted Prix de Rome, allowing him to spend three years of study in Rome, where he composed many works including the opera La jolie fille de Perth. When he returned to Paris in 1858, he composed the opera Les pêcheurs de perles, which premiered in 1863.
Bizet’s most famous work is the opera Carmen, which premiered in 1875. It was a huge success and is still performed today all over the world. Other notable works include the opera Djamileh, the symphonic suite L’Arlésienne and the symphonic poem Patrie.
In 1869, Bizet married Geneviève Halévy, the daughter of his close friend, the composer Fromental Halévy. They had one child, a son named Jacques. In 1875, Bizet wrote the opera Carmen, which was met with great success. He had begun work on a new opera, Don Rodrigue, however he died suddenly in 1875 at the age of 36, before he could finish it.
Bizet’s music is known for its melodic and harmonic richness, and his works were highly influential on the development of French opera. His most famous works are Carmen and L’Arlésienne, and he is also remembered for his skill as a pianist and conductor.
Today, Bizet’s works are performed all over the world, and he is remembered as one of the greatest French composers. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians and composers.
