Description

Autograph letter signed, two pages - both sides, 8,75 x 11 inch, personal stationery, Darmstadt, 5.01.1931, in French, to Germanist Henri Lichtenberger (1864-1941) - concerning promotion for his lectures, written and signed in blue ink "Hermann de Keyserling", with intersecting mailing folds, small tears to the lower left edge, and foxing - in fine condition.

In parts:

"... Here is the prospectus. It loses all spiritual interest, I have a fundamental interest in wanting the room to be filled: I am the one who pays all the fees, which are about 40,000 francs ... I also need ... to the largest possible audience. I hope that my friends will help me by talking about this event as much as possible - in an essentially oral city, like Paris, that is the essential thing. But could we not especially attract students, universities and other youth? Would it be possible in France - as it is possible in Germany - to nail leaflets and posters to blackboards, colleges, etc.? ? ... The seats are so cheap that really everyone can come (as the fees are very high, it is impossible to give free invitations) ... I will make use of the speaker, you will hear perfectly by everything. - I would be infinitely obliged to you if you would please cause what I ask of your university friends who have good will towards me. ... I would be very happy if editorial notes in the journals and especially the big ones (it is still time for most of them) want to announce my lectures with great detail. But I do not know anyone, personally, to whom I could ask. For the rest, I have every confidence in a good ending. I succeeded everywhere in the same genre. Why would not I succeed in Paris..."
