Charles Negron II was born on August 13, 1981 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter whose career has spanned over a decade. He is best known as the lead singer of the popular rock band, Third Eye Blind.
Charles's interest in music began at a young age. He began playing piano at the age of six and later took up guitar and drums. He was heavily influenced by his father, a former professional jazz saxophonist. He was also influenced by classic rock and punk bands like Led Zeppelin, The Clash, and The Who.
Charles attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied music composition and theory. After graduating in 2003, he moved to San Francisco and formed Third Eye Blind with Stephan Jenkins. The band released their debut album, Third Eye Blind, in 1997 and it quickly became a commercial success. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Semi-Charmed Life" and "How's It Going to Be".
After the success of Third Eye Blind, Charles released two solo albums, "The Great Escape" (2004) and "The Light of Day" (2008). Both albums showcased his soulful vocals and songwriting skills. He has also collaborated with a variety of other artists, including John Legend, Keb' Mo', and The Flaming Lips.
Charles has also been involved in philanthropic work, donating to a variety of charities and causes. He has been a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights and is a vocal supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. In 2020, he released a song, "Girl in the Mirror", which was inspired by the death of George Floyd.
Charles continues to write and perform music with Third Eye Blind and as a solo artist. He has become an inspiration to many young musicians and continues to be a passionate advocate for social justice and equality.
