Haile Selassie I, born Tafari Makonnen, was the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. He was born on July 23, 1892, in the town of Ejersa Goro in Ethiopia. His father was Ras Makonnen Wolde Mikael, the Governor of Harar, and his mother was Yeshimebet Ali Abajifar. Haile Selassie I was named Ras Tafari before ascending to the throne.

Haile Selassie I's reign was marked by modernization efforts in Ethiopia, including the construction of schools, hospitals, and infrastructure. He was also a key figure in promoting African unity and independence, serving as a founding member of the Organization of African Unity in 1963.

Haile Selassie I is also a central figure in the Rastafarian movement, which considers him to be the incarnation of God, or Jah. His Imperial Majesty's followers regard him as a Messiah who will bring about a golden age of peace and equality.
