Signed oversize vintage photograph, shows President Dwight D. Eisenhower arriving onboard USS Des Moines (CA-134) on December 15th 1959, 7,5 x 9,5 inch - affixed by the photographer on a larger cardboard (altogether 12 x 15 inch), signed and inscribed in dark ink to the lower photographer's mount "For Captain Morgan Slayton with best wishes and with gratitude for many courtesies to me onboard the Des Moines - 15-18 December 1959, Dwight D. Eisenhower", with glue remnants verso, and scattered very mild signs of wear - in fine to very fine condition.
His helicopter is in the background and the ship's company is turned out for the occasion.
Ike was aboard the cruiser for a three-day Mediterranean diplomatic cruise, ultimately arriving in Toulon France where he was greeted by French President Charles De Gaulle. While on the ship, he was treated to an air show, gunnery demonstration and a live-fire bombing demonstration.
