Hosea - agreeing to attend a meeting (of the Loyal Legion) provided he not be required to deliver a speech, written and signed in black ink "Rutherford B. Hayes", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a photograph, shows Rutherford B. Hayes in a chest-up portrait (altogether 12,5 x 9 inch), with two horizontal mailing folds, and mild mounting remnants verso - in fine to very fine condition.

   I appreciate your kind invitation for the January Meeting. But it is simply impossible for me, as yet, to speak to a Soldiers gathering. I have tried it recently. I will be glad to enjoy the Meeting with the Companions & their ladies if it can be distinctly understood that I am not be called on to Speak - not otherwise.
