(1585-1642) French clergyman, nobleman, and statesman - becoming a cardinal in 1622, and King Louis XIII`s chief minister in 1624.
Letter signed, one page - addressed verso (with red wax seals), 8,25 x 11,75 inch, Péronne, 1.07.1641, in French, to the Superintendent of Finances Claude Bouthillier (in Paris) - he thanks him for passing on news from Charlotte des Essarts, wife of François du Hallier (Marshal de L’Hôpital), and sends back Madame du Hallier’s letter, signed in dark ink "Le card de Richelieu" - written successively by two of his secretaries, Denis Charpentier, and Pierre Cherré, attractively mounted (removable) for display with a portrait picture (engraved by J. Lubin) of Armand Cardinal Richelieu (altogether 18,5 x 13,75 inch), with four horizontal mailing folds, light overall toning and soiling - in nearly fine condition.
