"Sehr geehrter Herr Hoffmann
W. Siemens"

Translation:
"Dear Mr. Hoffmann,
I unfortunately received here the notification of the death of your father belated. My absence was perhaps the reason, too, why I had not known anything about his repeated illness. The message of his prompt death touched me very painfully. There were few people, with which I had so often contact during so many years, and with whom I had so many interesting / questions to discuss. This was the case especially in the earlier days. The deceased was a big talent, a creative nature. The history of his firm is filled up with his inventive and excellent efforts. Furthermore, he was one of the most endearing persons, I have ever met with. He leaves in our entire circle an excellent remembrance. I dare to condole with you and your family cordially
Your very obedient
W. Siemens"
