Yoko Ono was born in Japan in 1933 to a wealthy banking family. She moved to New York in 1953 where she studied music, poetry, and art. She quickly became part of the avant-garde art scene, and in 1964 she met John Lennon, the leader of the Beatles. The two began a relationship that was to last until Lennon’s death in 1980.

Ono’s art often explored themes of peace and unity, and she was an activist for peace. In 1969, she and John Lennon staged their famous “Bed-in for Peace” in Amsterdam, to promote world peace. They also wrote and recorded the song “Give Peace a Chance” during that time. Ono’s activism was not limited to peace; she also advocated for numerous social causes, including women’s rights, racial equality, and environmental protection.

Ono was a prolific artist and musician throughout her career. In 1971, she released her first solo album, “Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band,” which was well received by critics. She released numerous albums throughout her career, and also collaborated with many other musicians, including her husband John Lennon. Ono was also a prolific visual artist, and her works have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world.

In addition to her artistic work, Ono was an accomplished businesswoman. She founded her own record label, “Secretly Canadian,” and was also a vocal advocate for artists’ rights. She was a strong supporter of the Creative Commons movement, and was a vocal opponent of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Ono was also a philanthropist and a dedicated advocate for numerous charitable causes. In 1984, she founded the “John Lennon Peace Tower” in Iceland, which was dedicated to John Lennon’s memory. She also donated millions of dollars to numerous charities and causes, including the Red Cross and Greenpeace.
