Toshiro Mifune was a Japanese actor whose remarkable talent and presence made him one of the most influential figures in the history of cinema. Born on April 1, 1920, in Qingdao, China, Mifune grew up in a family that owned an optical goods shop. However, his life took a dramatic turn when he enrolled in an acting class at the Toho studios in 1946.
Mifune's breakthrough came in 1948 when he was cast in the lead role of Akira Kurosawa's film "Drunken Angel." This collaboration marked the beginning of a fruitful partnership that would define both men's careers. Mifune went on to work in 16 of Kurosawa's films, including "Rashomon" (1950), "Seven Samurai" (1954), and "Yojimbo" (1961), earning critical acclaim for his intense performances.
