Lazare Carnot Autograph

Autograph note (unsigned), one page, 7,25 x 3 inch, (May 1796), in French, concerning the Italian Campaign of the young Napoleon Bonaparte, written by Lazare Carnot in black ink - also inscribed by the collector in pencil (`Carnot`), attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a portrait picture of Lazare Carnot (altogether 8,25 x 11,75 inch), with browning, and mild signs of age wear - in fine condition.

"Le directoire avoit indiqué au général Bonaparte la place de Pizzighitone pour chef lieu de la nouvelle république italienne mais il a su depuis que cette ville est très petite et que l`air y est très mauvais en concéquence il est convenable d`autoriser le gal Bonaparte à fixer ce chef lieu soit à Crema soit dans toute autre ville qu`il jugera plus propre à remplir cet objet."

Translated:
"The Directory had indicated to General Bonaparte the location of Pizzighitone as the capital of the new Italian Republic, but he has since learned that this town is very small and the air there is very bad; consequently, it is appropriate to authorize General Bonaparte to establish this capital either in Crema or in any other town he deems more suitable for this purpose."
