John Mayall, OBE (born 29 November 1933) is an English blues singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, whose musical career spans over fifty years. In the 1960s, he was the founder of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, a band which has included Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, John McVie, and Mick Taylor, amongst others. Mayall has received an OBE for services to music and has been awarded honorary doctorates from both the University of Manchester and the University of Westminster.

John Mayall was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, in 1933. His father was a jazz fan, who introduced him to the music of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and other jazz greats. Mayall was also inspired by the folk and blues music he heard at local folk clubs. At the age of 15, he bought his first guitar and started to learn how to play. He soon became proficient on the instrument, and in the early 1950s, he formed his first band, the Powerhouse Four.

In the late 1950s, Mayall moved to London, where he formed a new band, the Bluesbreakers. This band featured some of the most influential blues musicians of the time, including Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Mick Taylor. The band released several albums throughout the 1960s, and their live performances were legendary. Mayall also released several solo albums during this period, which further highlighted his talents as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.

In the 1970s, Mayall moved to Los Angeles, California, where he formed a new band, the Bluesbreakers. This band was equally as influential as the original, and featured some of the same musicians, including Larry Taylor, Harvey Mandel, and Walter Trout. The band released several albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and Mayall continued to tour and release solo albums.

In the 1990s, Mayall returned to England, and released a series of solo albums, which featured some of the same musicians from the Bluesbreakers, as well as some new faces. Mayall also reunited with the Bluesbreakers in the early 2000s, and released several more albums. Mayall continues to tour and release albums to this day. He has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, and is widely considered to be one of the most influential blues musicians of all time.

John Mayall is a true blues legend, whose influence can still be felt today. His work has inspired and influenced countless musicians, and his legacy will live on for many years to come.
