Autograph letter signed, one page (blue paper), 5 x 7 inch, `Monday 5 a.m.` [9.03.1874], in French, to an unnamed correspondent - concerning his work `Le candidat` (a play in vaudeville form by Gustave Flaubert written in 1873 and premiered on March 11, 1874 at the Théâtre du Vaudeville), written and signed in black ink "G. Flaubert", attractively mounted (removable) for display with a beautiful portrait picture of Gustave Flaubert (altogether 11,75 x 8,25 inch), with intersecting letter folds and very mild signs of wear - in fine to very fine condition.

"Monsieur Markley, directeur `du théâtre Français` à Bordeaux me demande à monter le Candidat, & réclame à cet effet un manuscrit.
   C`est Mr Michaelis qui possède l`unique ms lisible de ma pièce. Je lui ai écrit pour le prier de vous en envoyer une copie - que vous enverrez à Mr Markley.
