"My dear Juanita
I think all my excuses will have no effect on you for having not written to you since I left England. I must say I have been extremely busy with my own affairs and the Government, then came the President of the Lebanon to pay Iraq a visit. Now that Christmas is very near I said to myself, I must sit and write you a few lines. So may I wish you a very happy Christmas and a joyful New Year.
I wrote to Alan a short time ago asking him / to come over as my guest for some time and ask you to come with him. I wonder whether he has talked to you about it or not! I will be very happy if you could manage to accompany him if he comes or you could come alone or with some other friend. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
So far I did nothing in the way of amusement. I only hunted once and went shooting a few times. I will be doing more shooting next month. How are you, what are you doing? Is the winter very hard this year? We are having a very mild one this year. Hoping to hear from you very soon."
